Demand of Polo

The demand for appeal is often changing. The change in the demand for a type of clothing or ones taste moves the demand curve.  Polo Ralph Lauren is an excellent example.  Currently,( RL) Polo Ralph Lauren stock is trading at  134.05 (5/19/2011);on the other hand, RL was trading at 53.10 on 6/29/2009. (http://www.stocknod.com/RL-Polo-Ralph-Lauren-stock-prices.aspx ) There is about a month differential between the stock price dates above; however in just two years, Polo Ralph Lauren has doubled its stock price. Why one would ask? Numerous Studies show African Americans are the largest consumers of luxury items including name brand clothing.  In my observation of urban culture and African American people, there has a recent upward trend of urban culture wearing Polo Ralph Lauren.  The average African American man owns at least one pair of Polo Boots and one Polo Shirt. (Facebook status survey 796 of 805) The increase in Polo apparel causes a rightward shift in the demand curve.
